The Kosciusko Whippet basketball teams went 1-1 during the opening round of Region 4-4A Tournament play Tuesday night.

In the first game of the double header, the #4 seed Lady Whippets used a late push and clutch free throw shooting to beat #5 seed Noxubee County 62-52.

The Lady Whippets were led by All-Region guard Feria Mays. The senior finished the night 8/13 from the field with 29-pts and 11/12 from the free throw line.

The team will take on Louisville in the tournament semifinals Thursday at 7:00 pm.

In the boys game, the Whippets saw their season come to an end at the hands of Caledonia.

The Confederates used hot shooting from forward Robert Hamilton, who led all scorers with 32-pts, to jump out to an early double-digit lead.

The Whippets were able to keep it close throughout the second half, but Caledonia held on to get the 66-56 win.

The Whippets end their season with a record of 19-9.

In other tournament games, the Houston (girls) defeated Caledonia 52-42 and Louisville (boys) defeated Houston 70-51.
