The Mississippi Department of Education has released the results of the 3rd Grade Reading Assessment and schools in the Kosciusko/Attala County Area scored among the state’s best.
The results, released Thursday, revealed that over 95% of students at Greenlee Elementary and 94.5% of students at Kosciusko Middle Elementary passed the test.
That comes in slightly higher than the state average of 92%.
Principal Culley Newman told BreezyNews.com that 98.1% of students at Greenlee Elementary passed the first test and 100% passed the retake.
“I would like to commend our teacher Pam McDaniel and the entire third-grade glass on a job well done,” said Newman.
The Literacy-Based Promotion Act requires 3rd graders to pass a reading assessment to demonstrate they are ready for 4th grade reading instruction. Students are provided with three opportunities to pass the test.
The final retest opportunity will take place between June 26 and Aug. 4, 2017.
