On Oct. 22 – 23, Kosciusko-Attala CTC Ed Prep and Health Science classes teamed up to teach proper handwashing techniques through the Mississippi Handwashing Program to kindergarten and first grade students at Kosciusko Lower Elementary.
Students participated in interactive sessions designed to instill the importance of hand hygiene. With the guidance of CTC students, the young learners engaged in hands-on activities that made learning about proper handwashing fun and effective.
The program emphasizes the crucial steps of washing hands: wetting, soaping, scrubbing for at least 20 seconds, rinsing, and drying. Using colorful visuals and songs, CTC students demonstrated the techniques, making it easy for the children to remember the process.
“Handwashing is a simple yet powerful way to prevent illness,” said Kosciusko-Attala Health Science Instructor Amy Price. “By teaching these young students the right way to wash their hands, we are helping them build lifelong healthy habits.”
The initiative aligns with national health guidelines and aims to reduce the spread of germs among young children, especially in school settings.
Parents and teachers have already noticed an enthusiastic response from the students, who are excited to share what they have learned.
“I heard my child telling her cousins about how to wash their hands correctly,” one parent remarked.
The Mississippi Handwashing Program not only focuses on skill-building but also encourages children to take ownership of their health. With the support of the CTC, Kosciusko Lower Elementary is fostering a culture of health awareness and safety among its students.
As part of their commitment to community health, the Kosciusko-Attala CTC plans to continue these educational sessions throughout the school year, reaching more students and reinforcing the importance of proper hygiene practices.
