On Tuesday, December 3, the Attala County Fire Department responded to what was reported as a structure fire on Highway 429 near the water tower in Sallis shortly after 2 p.m.
Firefighters searched for a structure fire for a time but were unable to locate it. A trash fire was discovered in the area that was nearly extinguished on arrival. Crews thoroughly wet the area to prevent any potential rekindling.
