KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–Shortly after 7:30 p.m. a house was reported on fire on Attala Rd. 5057.
The initial call stated that everyone was out of the house, except possibly some animals.
Firefighters from several departments were called to the Horne residence. The first firefighters to call in reported that flames were showing through the entire structure and that everyone was confirmed out of the house.
Deputies were called to help with traffic because firefighters were having trouble getting to water sources.
One of the fire units that was responding hit a tree that had come down on Hwy. 19, near the intersection with Hwy. 14. They were able to keep going.
“While responding to the structure fire, a Zama fire engine struck a tree on Hwy 19south, the driver was checked out by EMS as a precaution and was thankfully uninjured and the apparatus sustained very minimal damage, they were able to continue their response and provide water supply,” said Chief Tim Cox.
Shortly after beginning to fight the fire, firefighters reorted they were going to a defensive mode. Cox said the home was a total loss.
The suspected cause is lightning. But, that has not been confirmed and the investigation continues.
