Region 5-1A Playoff Field Set: McAdams takes No. 2 Seeds, Ethel Secures No. 4

The McAdams Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs both earned No. 2 seeds out of Region 5-1A in the upcoming MHSAA Class 1A playoffs following runner-up finishes in the Region 5-1A District Tournament Championship games Friday night, Feb. 13, at McAdams.

Girls Fall in Title Game, Set to Host South Delta

The Lady Bulldogs fell to Sebastopol 67-25 in the district championship game but secured the No. 2 seed and will open playoff action at home against South Delta.

Tipoff is set for Monday, Feb. 16, at 5:00 p.m. at McAdams High School.

Several Lady Bulldogs were recognized with All-Region and All-Tournament honors:

  • Aniyisha Gladney — District MVP, All-Tournament

  • Ra’kesha Greer — All-District

  • Taliah Gadson — All-District, All-Tournament

  • Tamila Wise — All-District

  • Ja’niah Greer — All-District

  • Kenyon Ross — Coach of the Year

Boys Earn No. 2 Seed, Will Host West Bolivar

The Bulldogs dropped a hard-fought championship matchup to Leake County, 68-52, but also earned the No. 2 seed from Region 5-1A. McAdams will host West Bolivar in the first round of the MHSAA 1A playoffs.

Tipoff is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6:00 p.m.

The Bulldogs also collected several All-Region and All-Tournament honors:

  • Gavin Brown — Offensive MVP, All-Tournament

  • DJ Fleming — All-District

  • Omari Williams — All-District

  • Caden Smith — All-District

  • Joshua Atterberry — All-Tournament

Ethel Tigers Earn No. 4 Seeds

In other Region 5-1A playoff matchups, both the Ethel Tigers girls and boys teams finished as the No. 4 seeds. The Lady Tigers will travel to Simmons on Monday, Feb. 16, while the Tigers boys team will head to Leflore County for a matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
