In conjunction with the exhibition L.V. Hull: Love Is a Sensation, the Mississippi Museum of Art (MMA) will host the premiere screening of the documentary Love Is a Sensation, directed by exhibition co-curator, producer, and editor Yaphet L. Smith.
The film celebrates the life and artistic vision of Kosciusko’s own L.V. Hull, a self-described “unusual artist” known for transforming everyday items into vibrant works of art.
The screening, set for Thursday, April 9 at 6:00 pm , will be followed by a post-film conversation with Smith, offering viewers a deeper look into Hull’s creative process and legacy.
Hull, who passed away in 2008, gained recognition for turning ordinary objects — from hats and lamps to household appliances and tools — into colorful, glittering artworks. For years, her Kosciusko home drew visitors eager to see the hundreds of pieces that filled nearly every space.
Her work continues to inspire audiences today. The major exhibition L.V. Hull: Love Is a Sensation opened March 20 at the Mississippi Museum of Art, showcasing hundreds of her pieces.
Locally, Hull’s former home in Kosciusko is set to open to the public in May as the L.V. Hull Legacy Center, ensuring that her artistic vision will be preserved for future generations.
