Residents in Attala County are invited to attend the Attala County Community Wildfire Preparedness Day on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Attala County Coliseum.
The free, family-friendly event will focus on practical steps residents can take to reduce wildfire risk and better prepare their homes and families for fire season.
Topics will include creating defensible space around homes, home hardening tips for roofs and gutters, safe debris burning practices, evacuation planning, and how to sign up for local emergency alerts. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet local fire, forestry, and emergency management professionals.
The event is open to homeowners, renters, farmers, businesses, and community groups. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos of their property and questions about wildfire safety for personalized advice.
Preparedness Day is hosted by Attala County Emergency Management, the Attala County Fire Department, and the Mississippi Forestry Commission. The event is free to attend, and registration is recommended but not required.
