More information has been released on the upcoming closure along the Natchez Trace Parkway between Kosciusko and French Camp, with the National Park Service now confirming details of the detour and the scope of the project.

Beginning June 22, motorists will be detoured around a 15-mile section of the Parkway between Mississippi Highway 12 (MP 165) and Mississippi Highway 413 (MP 180) in Attala and Choctaw counties.

Officials say the closure is part of a major rehabilitation project that includes full-depth roadway reconstruction, bridge repairs, drainage improvements, and paving. Work is expected to continue through mid-2027.

“All through traffic will be detoured around the closure using a clearly marked alternate route,” the National Park Service said. “Motorists should expect slightly longer travel times and plan accordingly.”

Bicyclists will not be able to use the detour and will need to arrange transportation around the closed section.

The project is Phase II of a three-phase, $150 million effort to rehabilitate 83 miles of the Parkway, funded through the Great American Outdoors Act and Federal Highway Administration programs.

“This investment… will improve roadway conditions, enhance visitor safety and preserve critical infrastructure along one of the nation’s most scenic historic routes,” said Superintendent Wendy Ross.

Updates will be posted at nps.gov/natr throughout the project.
