The Sallis Water System would like to inform all water customers that updated water rates, recently approved by the Mississippi Public Service Commission, will take effect with the water bills mailed in September.
The new rates will apply to water usage recorded during the month of August.
The updated water rates are as follows:
• Base Rate (includes the first 2,000 gallons): $26.00
• Usage Over 2,000 Gallons: $5.75 per 1,000 gallons
Under the updated rate structure, all customers will pay the same rate, regardless of whether the account is residential or commercial or whether it is located inside or outside the town limits.
Only the water usage rates have changed. No other utility fees or charges have been increased.
The Town has worked diligently to evaluate the financial needs of the water system. The process included guidance from water system professionals and a comprehensive rate analysis conducted by Mississippi State University. The goal was to establish rates that provide the revenue necessary to operate, maintain, and improve the system while keeping costs as affordable as possible for our customers.
The rate adjustment will help the Sallis Water System continue providing safe and reliable drinking water while supporting both the day-to-day operation of the system and planned infrastructure improvements. These improvements include the construction of new booster stations later this year, as well as the continued rehabilitation and modernization of the system’s aging infrastructure.
