Dangerous heat stress will be spreading east today and the National Weather Service is posting a heat advisory which covers all of this area. Heat index readings could climb as high as 110 degrees in some areas between 11 am and 8 pm but they’ll probably be a little lower around here—106 is forecast in Durant.
An extreme heat warning has been posted for a small part of the Delta including the Clarksdale, Tunica, Marks and Charleston areas where the heat index today could exceed 110.
Tomorrow, things are expected to get worse in this area with the heat index climbing to 108 in Durant, 107 in Philadelphia and 106 in Kosciusko and Carthage. Starting Friday, the National Weather Service is forecasting high temperatures near 100 areawide with the heat index between 105 and 110.
