A two-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler shut down the are of the bypass between Hwy 43 S and Hwy 12 W Wednesday afternoon. Attala County Fire Department, Attala County Deputies, and EMS were called to the scene just after 2 p.m.
The 18-wheeler landed on its side across the highway with fuel leaking from the truck. The road was shut down for a time while first responders worked the scene and crews cleared the highway.
One person became trapped in their vehicle, but was quickly extricated by firefighters. That driver was seriously injured and transported to a hospital in Jackson.

August 12, 2026 at 9:29 PMI don’t know why there was no turning lane out there on Hwy 12 when this Hwy 43 intersected to it. Have had several wrecks there.
