A chance today to find out if the state may be holding some of your lost money. State Treasurer David McRae and his staff will be in Lexington this afternoon to try to return about a half-million dollars to the rightful owners.
“We just go all around the state,” McRae says. “We’ll go to big areas, small areas. We’ve had lots of legislators ask us to come to their hometowns to do it and we’ve had great response. I call it our traveling roadshow.”
The unclaimed money could be from old utility deposits, uncashed paychecks, bank accounts and things like that. McRae says some people who think they may have some money coming to them are hesitant to give his office any personal information over the phone.
“But they’re comfortable talking one on one. So, what we’ve found is a lot of people want to come to these events like Holmes County and we’re able to give them back their money.”
And while today’s unclaimed money event is happening in Holmes County, McRae says it’s not just for residents of that county.
“We welcome anybody, no matter where you are.”
