The average price of gas in Mississippi is creeping closer to $4 a gallon. AAA says it’s less than a dime away now at $3.93. The auto club says the statewide average has gone up 13 cents in the past week and is up 33 cents in the past month. Attala County has already crossed the $4 mark, with an average price this morning of $4.03, the highest in the local area.
Leake County has lost its status of having the state’s cheapest prices, and with a countywide average of $3.92, isn’t even in the low price top ten this morning.
Neshoba County, at $3.88 is now the lowest in this area, followed by Leake and Winston both at $3.92, Montgomery at $3.93, Choctaw at $3.94, Holmes at $3.96 and Carroll at $3.97. Attala is one of 16 counties in Mississippi with an average price above $4, although GasBuddy.com says you can still find gas in Kosciusko selling for as little as $3.93.
For a long time, Carthage has been the city with the cheapest gas in this part of central Mississippi. No longer. Gas Buddy says that distinction now belongs to Philadelphia, where gas at one station is still a bargain at $3.39. In Carthage, the phone app is showing $3.58 as the lowest price.
