Local law enforcement is warning the community about a dangerous synthetic opioid found in the illicit drug supply: cychlorphine.
In a public service announcement, the Attala County Sheriff’s Office alerted residents to the drug’s extreme potency and highlighted a critical hidden danger: standard fentanyl test strips may not detect cyclorphine. Officials caution that a negative test result does not mean a drug is safe.
Authorities also warn that counterfeit pills can look nearly identical to legitimate prescription medications.
To protect yourself and others, public safety officials recommend:
- Carrying Naloxone (Narcan): Keep it on hand and know how to use it. Multiple doses may be required if an individual does not respond right away.
- Never Using Alone: Ensure someone nearby knows where naloxone is kept.
- Calling 911 Immediately: If anyone is unresponsive or struggling to breathe, contact emergency services right away and administer naloxone.
