Marcus Wood has retired as the head football coach at Holmes Community College following the conclusion of the 2026 season.
Holmes Community College Athletics announced the decision via social media:
Wood led the Bulldogs for five seasons after being named head coach in November 2021. During his tenure, Wood guided Holmes to a 7-0 start in 2024, reaching a No. 6 national ranking in the NJCAA polls and securing a postseason playoff berth.
Prior to his arrival at Holmes, Wood spent nine seasons on the staff at East Mississippi Community College as offensive coordinator and head coach-in-waiting, winning three NJCAA national championships, before serving as EMCC’s Executive Director of College Advancement and Athletics. He also previously served as a volunteer assistant at Holmes during the 1996 season.
According to the athletic department’s announcement, Wood will remain with the college in an administrative capacity over the coming months.
Holmes Community College has not yet announced a timeline or details regarding the search for his successor.
