The Town of Sallis has appointed a new alderman.
Luke Eaton was appointed at a board meeting earlier this week.
Eaton was the only candidate to qualify to run for the vacant position following the death of Aldermen Kelly Hutchison.
When only one candidates qualifies, a Mississippi State law allows the board to appoint that candidate.
A swearing-in ceremony for Eaton is set for Aug. 5.
