KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–The air packs that firefighters need to go into burning buildings without suffocating are not cheap. But, the City of Kosciusko has found a way to provide new ones.
“These air packs these guys have to wear into the fires are extremely expensive,” said Mayor Tim Kyle. “I think those things were like $6,800 a piece.”
Kyle said aldermen were able to approve their purchase last week, though.
“We sold our old fire truck recently. So, we’re taking the money off of that and purchasing some new air packs,” he said.
It was necessary to find new ones because the ones currently being used have been discontinued and it is difficult to find parts for them if they break down, he said.
