KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–A woods fire was reported by the Mississippi Forestry Commission near the Conehoma water tower near the intersection of highways 14 and 19.
That was shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday.
That fire was threatening a structure. But, several volunteer fire crews were able to get control of it and get it contained by 2:45, then turning it over to Forestry.
At the Same Time
Meanwhile, around the same time in Kosciusko at Sweeny Apartments, a fire was reported in one of the apartment units when someone smelled smoke.
Firefighters determined someone was cooking chicken and left it unattended. The was little to no damage.
Another Woods Fire
Another woods fire was reported on Attala Rd. 5216 and Rd. 5211 just before 5 p.m. It may have originated as a controlled burn, but grew.
