McCOOL, Miss.-A Friday afternoon fire was contained quickly by volunteer firefighters in Attala County. The fire was discovered just after 5 p.m. near Carson Ridge on Hwy. 411, according to radio traffic.
Initially several trucks were dispatched. The first firefighters on the scene reported the fire was covering only about a quarter of an acre. Other trucks were turned around.
At 6:41 p.m. firefighters reported the fire had been contained.
Woods Fires
A woods fire was reported Saturday morning at 11:11 on Attala Rd. 4171, just west of Kosciusko.
The outcome of that fire was unclear from radio traffic.
Another woods fire was reported near Sallis on Hwy. 429 Saturday afternoon just after 1:15. One firefighter reported there was a structure in danger about 200 yards away from the fire. The Forestry Commission was called out to help fight the fre (they have specialized equipment to slow the progress of woods fires).
Just after firefighters left that fire McCool volunteers were called out to a grass and woods fire on Attala Rd. 2120. Some of the firefighters that had been working on the fire near Sallis went immediately to the fire near McCool.
The fire was contained just after 4 p.m.
A woods fire was reported on Hwy. 19 south at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Zama volunteers responded to that one.
