KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–Kosciusko is again applying for a federal grant that could help people who are having trouble affording housing.
Mayor Tim Kyle tells Breezynews the city will try again to get the HOME Grant, which is administered by HUD, through the ten planning districts around Mississippi. He said the state gets about $3 million annually, to be divided by just a few communities.
“There’s ten planning districts in the state and I think each planning district had anywhere from ten to 13 communities that applied for this money,” said Kyle, on Breezy101’s Minute With the Mayor.
The money can be used to help people with rent, to build or rehab houses.
Kyle did not say specifically what the plans might be in Kosciusko, should the city be awarded the grant.
A public hearing was held Friday at city hall.
“It’s pretty tough to get it. But, it’s one of those things where there’s no chance to get it if you don’t apply.”

July 22, 2024 at 11:47 AMSounds like more taxpayer funded section 8 housing. Kosciusko has more now than its share of section 8 subsidized housing. Especially the apartments. Most are a nest of crime and problems for local law enforcement and their neighbors. Just check with the police’s department and ask them what percentage of calls come from these apartments and section 8 rentals. Then check with Attala SO and ask them about their calls that come from the section 8 apartments in Ethel.
