KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–Two fires were fought Saturday by Attala County firefighters in quick succession.
The first was at about 11:45 a.m. on Attala Rd. 1111. That was contained within about 20 minutes.
A second fire was called in shortly after noon on Attala Rd. 3232. Firefighters had a difficult time getting to the fire and determined the Mississippi Forestry Commission was needed to assist in getting it out.
About 12:50 another fire was reported just off the Natchez Trace Parkway. That was on Attala Rd. 2120. Ethel, McCool and Central firefighters were called out.
Seeing more smoke in the area, one of the firefighters discovered a controlled burn that had gotten out of hand. The Forestry Commission was called in to assist when it was determined that “a couple hundred acres” were involved.
Another woods fire was called in about 2:40 p.m. on Attala Rd. 5216, which was near the Kosciusko city limits behind Kangaroo Crossing. That was determined to be a controlled burn involving about a quarter acre.
The person who was doing the burning was advised it would be a good idea to put the fire out.
