LENA, Miss.–A possible tornado touchdown near Lena, in Leake County, is being investigated by the National Weather Service.

“We had several trees down around the Lena area,” said Leake County Emergency Manager Tommy Malone.

“It came through Tuscola, Madden and went on out through the Sebastopol area,” he said.

Malone said one trailer had some porch damage, but besides that no homes were reported damaged and no one was hurt in the storms.

David Cox, lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service Jackson office said the storm that came through Lena was the same one that caused some damage in Flowood in the Jackson Metro area.

“There were reports of damage right around the Jackson Metro area in the Flowood vicinity and some of these circulations did persist for some time,” he said. “Leake, in the area of Lena, does line up with that area of circulation that came right out of Jackson and into Flowood and into Rankin County and so that will have to be looked at.”

Cox said it did not appear that any tornadoes touched down in Neshoba or Attala counties, though those areas did have tornado warnings.

He said more considerable damage was reported in Franklin County, and survey teams from the Weather Service would be looking at that area, as well.
