Abandoned house lost to fire in Kosciusko Friday afternoon

Kosciusko Fire Department, Kosciusko Police, and EMS were dispatched to Simmons Ln. just before 4 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023 for a house fire.

The abandoned home was fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived on scene.  Firefighters knocked the flames down quickly and remained to cool down hot spots.

Kosciusko Fire Chief Duane Burdine says the culprit was a grass fire that spread to the abandoned house, rendering it a total loss.  There were no injuries reported and no other structures were damaged.

    Why do people keep lighting fires knowing it’s a burn ban? It makes no sense.
