The Attala County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Timothy James Potts, 46 of McCool, and Brittany Paige Raney, 23 of Weir have both been arrested and booked into the Leake County Correctional Facility. Bond for Potts is set at $500,000 and bond for Raney is set at $25,000.
Potts has been charged with murder and Raney with accessory after the fact following the fatal shooting at Hannah Heights Apartments in Ethel on Thursday, December 19.
The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m., and resulted in the death of Leortha Ashford, 42, of Attala County. Ashford was pronounced dead at 10:04 p.m. at Baptist Hospital Attala Emergency Department by Coroner Sam Bell.
The suspects had been sought for questioning and are now facing murder and accessory charges as the Attala County Sheriff’s Office continues their investigation.
Sheriff Curtis Pope extends his gratitude to the Kosciusko Police Department for their assistance in the investigation and to the citizens who provided tips and information that helped bring this case to a resolution.
