Attala County Fire Department battled grass fires, a woods fire, and a vehicle blaze on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
The calls began at 4:10 p.m. with a controlled burn that got out of hand. ACFD Chief, Tim Cox says the fire was less than an acre but burned around a dozen round bales of hay on fire. MS Forestry was requested to assist.
Shortly afterwards another grass fire, approximately 1 acre in size, was called in on Attala Rd. 3122. McCool Volunteers assisted ACFD in extinguishing the fire.
At 7 p.m., a woods fire ignited on Attala Rd. 4216 where Sallis Volunteers were called to assist Attala County Firefighters. Mississippi Forestry Commission was called in to help contain the blaze which burned around 15 acres.
ACFD responded to reports of a woods fire on Hwy 12 near the Choctaw County line at 8:43 p.m. This was determined to be a controlled burn.
Attala County Firefighters were called out once more for a vehicle fire on Attala Rd. 3030. Firefighters worked quickly to knock down and extinguish the flames. No one was injured. The vehicle was a total loss and the cause of this fire is currently unknown.
