Over the past week, the Attala County Fire Department (ACFD) has responded to around 20 calls, with the majority involving woods fires. One significant fire on Attala Road 3102 burned approximately 100 acres, requiring assistance from the Mississippi Forestry Commission. ACFD, along with volunteers from McCool, Carmack, Sallis, Providence, and Zama, have been active across the county to combat these blazes.

ACFD Chief Tim Cox expressed gratitude towards the Mississippi Forestry Commission, praising their hard work and describing them as “a vital resource for us.”

In a recent Facebook post, Chief Cox warned that the county is experiencing drought-like conditions, urging residents to avoid outdoor burning until substantial rainfall occurs. See the Facebook post below along with photos from the blaze on Attala Road 3102.
