Attala Firefighters Battle Multiple Blazes, 35 Acres and 30 Vehicles Burned

Attala County firefighters fought several fires on Tuesday, with one particularly severe blaze on Attala Road 4122 (pictured below) burning 35 acres, 30 old vehicles, and a camper. The fire, which started from an outdoor waste disposal, quickly spread due to dry conditions, despite efforts by the property owners to contain it.

“At one point, we had four active fires simultaneously in the county,” said Attala County Fire Chief Tim Cox. “But we were able to mitigate them with the aid of our volunteers who work tirelessly to protect their communities”. That includes Carmack, Sallis, Zama, McCool, and Ethel Volunteers.

The Mississippi Forestry Commission also played a crucial role in controlling the fires. Chief Cox expressed gratitude to Behind the Pines for donating iced water and sports drinks to the firefighters on Attala Road 4122. “It kept us in the fight” says Cox.

Thankful nobody was injured fighting this fire. We certainly appreciate those firemen because they work tirelessly getting these fires out. A very dangerous job no matter how large or small the fire is. Thank you to all involved!
