One man is behind bars after a tussle with deputies.
Sheriff Tim Nail tells Breezy News that Attala 4, Sergeant Hugh Curry, was called to Attala Road 3122, also known as Farm To Market Road, on Sunday the 27th for what at the time was dispatched as a welfare check.
When the deputy arrived on the location he discovered that an assault had taken place. The suspect, 27 year old James Herbert Harthcock, had assaulted a family member according to Nail.
Harthcock had left the location and Sergeant Curry located him at another residence in the area. When the deputy attempted to take the male into custody, a struggle took place. The deputy called for assistance from fellow officers and they immediately raced to assist. With the closest unit in Kosciusko and the deputy in the Carmack area, help was not immediately available.
Sergeant Curry struggled with the subject even deploying pepper spray to subdue the male. Curry was able to take control of Harthcock and hold him until other officers arrived on scene.
Sheriff Nail said that Harthcock has been charged with one count each of aggravated assault, destruction of public property, malicious mischief and resisting arrest.
Harthcock was transported to the Leake County Correctional Facility where he is also being held on a MDOC parole violation.
