The Attala County Sheriff’s Office is now a part of the nation’s largest online investigation system.
During Monday’s meeting, the board of supervisors approved Sheriff Tim Nail’s request to join Leads Online.
The online service will allow the department to search for possible stolen or missing weapons in an online database, used mostly by pawn shops.
Nail said the service will help extend the search reach for his investigators because stolen weapons may end up anywhere throughout the state of Mississippi.
While using Leads Online on a trial basis, Nail said investigators were able to find a gun near Memphis that had been stolen from Attala County several months ago.
Leads Online will cost the sheriff’s office around $1,200/year.
