The city of Kosciusko is softening the blow of a property tax increase with a recently passed tax levy.
“The state does a hard reassessment of value, so everybody’s property values, for the most part, if you own homes or businesses, stuff like that, is going up,” said Kosciusko Mayor Tim Kyle.
But Kyle says to help offset the increase, the city is lowering its tax rate.
“Since the values in the city have increased, we’re actually going to decrease our tax levy. We’re going to change our millage from 36 and a quarter back to 35, so we will be going down one and a quarter on your millage rate.”
Kyle says the city has done the same thing with the school district’s millage rate, lowering it by 1.25 mils.
