Four local businesses are stepping up to help the city install four additional license plate reading cameras.
The cameras are designed to read license plates as a tool to help law enforcement in solving crimes involving vehicles.
Mayor Tim Kyle says adding four more of those cameras will help to make Kosciusko a safer city.
“That tag reader reads it within, I don’t know, I think it’s 15 seconds,” said Kyle. “It goes to a national computer base and if there’s anything associated with that tag, any criminal activity at all, it lets the police department within seconds”
Kyle says Holt’s Body Shop, Franks Chevrolet, Dickerson Petroleum, and J.C. Cheek Contractors are providing donations ($3,000 each) for those new tag readers.
The mayor says once they’re installed, along with the two already in operation, it’s going to be like having six extra patrol officers out there 24 hours a day watching the streets.
Kyle did clarify that the cameras are not designed to be used to write speeding tickets or any other moving violations.
