A man was charged today with impersonating a police officer after possibly attempting to pull over off-duty deputy Braxton Goza.

Curtis Lamar Gaines allegedly activated blue and white flashing lights while driving behind Goza, who alerted on-duty authorities. Gaines sped past several vehicles before being pulled over near the Attala/Leake County line.

Gaines faces multiple charges, including impersonating an officer, improper equipment, reckless driving, and possession of marijuana.

Deputy Goza urges drivers to stay vigilant during traffic stops. If unsure, he advises turning on emergency flashers, slowing down, and calling 911 to confirm the legitimacy of the stop. Photos of the illegal lights and standard police lights were shared by officials and are pictured above.
