Bulldogs and Tigers set for an Attala County showdown

There’s nothing like opening the season with your county rival.

That’s what will happen Friday night when McAdams hosts Ethel to open the 2018 football season.

The teams aren’t in the same division anymore thanks to a reclassification last year, but the game is still taken seriously by players and coaches.

“Ethel will not be a team to overlook,” said McAdams Head Coach Jim Risen. “With their new head coach, [Dave] McCrory, they have a new enthusiasm about them and they are playing with a lot of energy and refurbished focus.”

In the past five seasons, the 2017 game was the only game that didn’t come down to the wire. McAdams won that matchup 44-0.

The Bulldogs edge the Tigers 3-2 in those five meetings, with three out of the last four going into overtime. Ethel’s last win was a 28-22 victory on Oct. 23, 2015.

While first games are often marred by penalties, turnovers, and other growing pains as teams try to find their identities, first year Ethel Head Coach Dave McCrory believes that fundamentals are the key to winning this rivalry showdown.

“Whoever blocks and tackles the best and has the fewest turnovers will win this game,” said McCrory.

The Tigers and the Bulldogs will kickoff Friday night at 7:00 pm in McAdams.
