Burn Ban Lifted in Attala – Burn Responsibly

SHARE NOW

The burn ban for Attala County has officially been lifted, but you should always burn responsibly.  We’ve gathered some tips for safe outdoor burning.

  • Contact your local fire department to notify them that you are burning so they will only respond to calls about your fire if it is an emergency.  Attala County Fire Department: (662) 289-9163.  Kosciusko Fire Department: (662) 289-2311.
  • Check weather conditions.  Dry conditions are not favorable for burning and wind can carry embers away from your fire and start a wildfire.
  • Pay close attention to where you are burning.  Check for overhanging limbs or power lines and look around to be sure there is nothing nearby that your fire could reach and burn.  Keep the ground surrounding the fire watered down.
  • Stay with your burn.  Always keep a watch on your burn pile until it is completely out.  If there is smoke, there are embers and the fire could start up again.  This can happen even days after the fire is out.

Always burn responsibly and if your burn does get out of control, call 911 to report it.
