The City of Kosciusko is working with the local school district to crack down on students from outside the district whose parents falsify documents to get them into the Kosciusko schools.
Mayor Tim Kyle says the city is considering an ordinance that would penalize parents for doing that.
“It just shows that the City of Kosciusko is committed to ensuring the response and appropriate use of taxpayer funds that actually go to our students that live here,” said Kyle
Kyle says school officials have determined that students from as many as four other counties are enrolled in the Kosciusko schools.
No action was taken on the ordinance at this week’s meeting of the board of aldermen, but the board plans to vote on it at the next meeting Tuesday, Nov. 19.

November 7, 2024 at 8:19 AMI do not understand how this even happens so easily. For 9 years I had the hardest time showing proof of residency and I live without walking distance to one of the schools. The deed had my name on it, the taxes had my name on them, the bills were in my name but there was always a new letter coming home until she hit the 10th grade. I even came home one day to find a principal and school officer in my driveway.

November 8, 2024 at 6:33 AMI personally took my son out Of Kosciusko school district in 6 grade he had a God awful principle that allowed his nephews to try to sell drugs on school premisses and spanked my child for not having his homework when we had lost a family member the night before
Kosciusko school district is about who is who if you are not a big name or play sports you are bullied and ridiculed
My child is grown now with a great degree and doing awesome for himself

November 8, 2024 at 9:20 AMThis merely demonstrates the separatist nature of town residents. It has been my experience the school welcomes students who perform well academically, High GPA, high ACT and Sat scores also National Merit Awards. The administration has always turned a blind eye to these students from out of district.
The only way forward at this point is consolidation. Consolidation will benefit ALL students!

November 8, 2024 at 9:37 PMSo consolidation is the answer for the dozens of students flocking here from Holmes County each year? Please explain.
This is absolutely great news. I hope we can get rid of all of the them.

November 10, 2024 at 2:29 PMStudents from other counties would seem to be a problem with your administration. Why has that been allowed to an extent that it is such a serious problem? You know they are there, the administration must know they are there, I’m sure they are not sneaking in every day for an education. My comment was not intended to address this specific failure of the administration but rather to show positive support for the concept of consolidation that was mentioned in a previous comment. I agree that students from other counties should not be educated in Attala.
