A coffee roaster and distributor is investing $2 million in one of Mississippi’s most depressed counties, adding 55 jobs.

Southern Coffee Services said Tuesday it would add to its current 14 workers in Lexington over the next three years.

The company last summer bought the former Henson-Kickernick textile factory from the city of Lexington, expanding from a smaller facility.

Mississippi Development Authority spokeswoman Tammy Craft says Southern Coffee is already operating there, with renovations set for completion by 2021.

Craft says the state is providing a $100,000 grant for building improvements, while the city of Lexington is building a $155,000 road.

Craft says full-time employees will make about $30,000. That will qualify Southern Coffee to collect rebates of some worker income taxes. The company could collect $660,000 over 10 years. (AP)
