Update:
Leake County Coroner Earl Adams has identified the victim of Thursday’s fatal crash on Highway 16 as 36-year-old Sonya Nunn of Preston, MS.
A fatal crash occurred on the morning of March 20, 2025 on Highway 16 East near Indian Branch Road. The head-on collision happened around 7 a.m., trapping two individuals in their vehicle.
Emergency responders, including Edinburg Volunteer Firefighters, Leake County Deputies, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and EMS, arrived on the scene. Firefighters successfully freed the trapped individuals.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Jackson. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased and are investigating the cause of the crash.
