A fire in the early hours of Thursday morning has claimed the life of a child in the Sallis area of Attala County.
According to officials, the Attala County Fire Department, Attala County Sheriff’s Office, and EMS were dispatched to a mobile home fire on Attala Road 4151 at approximately 1:11 a.m. on February 20, 2025.
Upon arrival, responders found the home fully engulfed in flames, with reports of a female child trapped inside.
Despite efforts from first responders, the fire had consumed the home, making rescue attempts impossible.
Attala County Coroner Sam Bell confirmed that what appears to be the remains of a child were recovered from the scene. The remains will be sent to the state crime lab for DNA confirmation.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting local authorities in determining what led to the deadly blaze.
Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.

February 20, 2025 at 12:19 PMYes I do believe. I believe if bringing awareness to it results in saving another family having to bury their child then it needs brought up.

February 20, 2025 at 11:00 AMWell I’ve had a smoke alarm to even catch fire so let’s not do that judging please and thank you
Lane
February 20, 2025 at 12:39 PMYou’re welcome, but it’s has absolutely nothing to do with judging. It has to do with preventing this from ever happening again. As I commented “most” of the time it can be prevented.
