Federal Disaster Declaration Requested for MS

SHARE NOW

Storm victims in 14 Mississippi counties, some of them in this part of the state, could soon be eligible for federal disaster assistance.  Gov. Reeves is asking President Trump for a disaster declaration for both individual and public assistance.  If the request is approved, people in Holmes, Carroll, Montgomery and 11 other counties could receive money to help with temporary housing and home repairs and low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses.  The public assistance request covers Carroll County and 16 others and would help pay for things like debris removal and repairing public buildings.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency says 671 homes across the state were damaged or destroyed in those storms in mid-March.  And local governments and non-profits are hoping to recoup more than $18 million in storm-related expenses.
