After hitting its highest level of the season the previous week, Mississippi’s flu rate has come down some.  The State Health Department’s latest update, for the week ending February 8, shows a slight drop, with the percentage of patients in doctors’ offices with flu-like symptoms at just under 8 per cent after reaching just over 9 per cent in the prior week.   Locally, the public health district which includes Attala and Holmes counties is still a hotspot for the virus with a flu rate of 32 per cent, while the district which includes Leake and Neshoba counties has fallen to 7.6 per cent.   Younger Mississippians, ages 5 to 24, are still the age group most likely to be affected, accounting for more than 35 per cent our flu cases.
