Former Holmes Community College receiver and current Indianapolis Colts receiver D.J. Montgomery returned to Goodman Saturday to host his first free camp for youth ages 6-16 at Ras Branch Stadium.
Montgomery, a Durant native, played for Madison Central in high school before playing two seasons at Holmes Community College and then transferring to Austin Peay University.
As a freshman at Holmes, he had 11 catches for 291 yards and two touchdowns in an option-based offense. As a sophomore, he caught 36 passes for 991 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had a huge bowl game for the Bulldogs in Iowa catching seven balls for 205 yards and two touchdowns and was named the game’s MVP. At Austin Peay, he played in 23 games and had 61 catches for 1,025 yards and 13 touchdowns.
After Austin Peay, he was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns. He then went to the New York Jets before landing with the Colts in Aug. 2022. He was put on the active roster in December 2023. He caught three passes with New York and three with the Colts so far. He has 92 yards and one touchdown.
Over 250 youngsters came to Goodman Saturday morning. Montgomery and many former D-1 athletes and current NFL players assisted him with the camp.
