Holmes CC women’s soccer defeats Cape Fear in NJCAA National Tournament pool play

TUCSON, Ariz. —The No. 4 ranked Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs defeated the No. 15 ranked Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils 11-0 here Sunday in NJCAA National Tournament pool play.

Holmes improved to 18-2 and will face St. Charles, Mo. on Tuesday at 3 p.m. mountain time and 4 p.m. central.

Jaycelyn Russ scored in the fourth minute to give Holmes a 1-0 lead. Brianna Lopez scored in the 12th minute to put Holmes up 2-0. Kristen Phillips scored in the 17th minute to go up 3-0.

Bailee Fairley scored in the 30th minute to put Holmes up 4-0. Russ scored again in the 34th minute to put Holmes up 5-0.

Olivia Tribolet scored two goals in the final nine minutes of the first half to put Holmes up 7-0 at halftime.

Sammi Doyle scored in the 53rd minute to put Holmes up 8-0 before Tribolet got her hat trick in the 66th minute.

Russ then got her hat trick in the 72nd minute and added another goal in the final minute to finish with four goals in the match.

Karly Murphy played the majority of the match while Jordan Bertschler played in the final minutes.
