The Kosciusko Board of Aldermen held its first meeting of April Tuesday night.
Topics covered during the meeting were:
- Dump Truck Bids Opened. There was only one bid. The board took it under advisement for review.
- Municipal Court Surcharge Ordinance (Approved – more information HERE.)
- Lupus Awareness Walk Saturday, May 10. (approved)
- Juneteenth Celebration to use the Renasant Bank Parking lot Thursday, June 19. (approved). Additional details on street closures and police escort will need further approval.
- Application for a Homeland Security Grant for SRT equipment for the Kosciusko Police Department (approved). Chief of Police Greg Collins explained the need for this grant as the department is putting together a Special Response Team/Task Force.
- New hire – Derwin Johnson to the Waste Water Department (approved)
- Payment to Galen Shumaker for working on the waste water system (approved)
- Quotes for Flowmeter – Approved the quote from CCLynch
Additionally, the board heard from a resident of 2nd Avenue who expressed concern about increased traffic on the street once the Jack’s restaurant is opened. Read more on that HERE.
During the comments section of the meeting, Mayor Tim Kyle mentioned the upcoming Natchez Trace Festival at the end of the month and the Community Clean-Up Day planned for April 19.
