The Kosciusko Board of Aldermen held its second meeting of April Tuesday night.
Topics covered during the meeting were:
- Park Bids for Tennis courts resurfacing and new Pickelball courts at Jason Niles and resurfacing basketball courts at NorthSide Park. Quality Court Industries was awarded the bids for all 3 projects.
- Garbage Contract: The board voted to extend the current Waste Management contract for 1 year.
- The board presented resolutions to Kosciusko boys and girls powerlifters for their performances at the state powerlifting meet.
- Attala County Librarians Janelle Synder and Melissa Simpson presented the library’s quarterly report.
- The board approved a resolution for Municipal Clerk Week.
- The board adopted a Fair Housing Resolution and Proclamation as a part of a CDBG sewer grant..
- The board approved street closures for portions of Washington & Natchez Streets for The Passion Play from April 17 – 19 (6:30 – 9:30).
- The board discussed closing a portion of Jefferson Street on the square Friday, April 18 for the KJHS prom. However, instead of closing the entire street, the board decided to have officers stationed on the street to direct traffic during the event.
- The board approved to sell the red train car that is set up just off of the square on Washington Street. More on that story HERE.
- A bid was awarded to Hodges Land Services for work at the airport.
- The board agreed to purchase a dumptruck from TruckWorkz and to finance it with a loan from Citizen’s National Bank.
- New hires: Amarion Riley, Jakobe Herron (Seasonal – Cemetery)
- Payment to Galen Shumaker for working on the waste water system (approved)
During the comments section of the meeting, Mayor Tim Kyle mentioned upcoming events such as The Passion Play, Natchez Trace Festival at the end of the month and the Community Clean-Up Day planned for April 19.
