Kosciusko ballot box examination to continue Thursday

SHARE NOW

Breezy News has learned that the ballot box examination of the numbers in the Kosciusko Mayoral Race will continue Thursday, June 19.

The Secretary of State’s office says the examination is more of a review than a full recount of the votes, but it does give candidates an opportunity to look at the ballots

In the initial vote tally, after all affidavits and absentees were counted, incumbent Tim Kyle holds a 26 vote lead over his challenger Marvin Myles Jr.

Thank you for FINALLY getting the reporting accurate. Everyone has been repeating total nonsense about what is going on, thinking this is just a numbers, counting process. I have been telling everyone that it was not as Breezy initially reported an “official recount,” that it was a Ballot Box Examination. Tallying or counting can be part of this process, but it is not limited to that. Mississippi, unlike almost all other states, does not allow candidate initiated “recounts” or recounts initiated by citizens either, so saying an “official recount” was happening was misleading and confusing to people. Unlike some states, Mississippi also does not have an “automatic recount” law, for close elections like this one. A bill was before the house to put this law into place for July 2025, but it failed or died, more accurately.

What occurred over the past 4 days to change the reported “ballot recount ” to a “ballot box examination” ?

See my comment above. Breezy called it an “official recount” in their news blurb, which was incorrect. If they got that info from someone else, that someone else was incorrect. This incorrect information caused major confusion amongst the public.

You can recount and examine a 100 times or more and it will show Tim Kyle won. This is getting way out of hand! I wish those that think this election was “rigged” would just MOVE ON!!

Thanks for your explanation. Although your explanation is stamped prior to my question, it was not posted at the time of my submission. After this unfortunate incidence, perhaps reporters will do a more thorough fact check before going to print. Very surprising that a Republican sponsored bill in a red state couldn’t’ get passed. Hmmm?

Yes, I don’t think my comment was posted the night I submitted it. Both our posts from last night may have been posted at the same time this morning. I didn’t know it was a Republican sponsored bill! (Thanks for that info!) Interesting to me is that even if had become law, I don’t think it would have applied to this election, since it would not have become law until July 1, 2025.
