Kosciusko, Mississippi has been recognized as one of the state’s most underrated towns in a recent feature by WorldAtlas.
The article highlights the town’s rich history, cultural significance, and unique attractions that make it a hidden gem in the Magnolia State.
I asked Boswell Media’s Johnny Boswell his opinion on why Kosciusko was getting noticed in recent years, and this is what he had to say: “We’ve been doing some things right in recent years. The town—especially the downtown area—has a lot of appeal. Travelers on the Trace are stopping and spending more time in Kosciusko. The historical audio tour is a big hit with visitors. The bike trail along Huntington Street—all of this is attracting capital and investment in our town. We’ve become a cool place to visit. I’m very proud of where we are. This type of recognition and progress will ultimately impact all citizens of Kosciusko in a positive way.”
With its blend of historical charm and cultural offerings, Kosciusko stands out as a must-visit destination for travelers seeking an authentic Mississippi experience.

April 16, 2025 at 9:39 PMWell, Johnny I live at the intersection of N Huntington and N Natchez Street. Beginning in August I began picking my
young grandson up in the morning on
S Huntington St and take him to the high school. In the afternoon I pick him up at school and drop him at his house. I venture to say I haven’t seen anybody riding a bicycle during this time.
If it weren’t for Jason’s Southern Table and the new Jefferson Street restaurant there wouldn’t be a place in town where you sit down, have a menu, someone come to your table, take your order and bring it to you. Of course you definitely have a choice of Mexican, Chinese or fast food places.
Even if we do get visitors or really even for the people who live here there’s no entertainment. No movie, no bowling alley, and no Indian museum.

April 20, 2025 at 4:36 PMAs someone with a business on the square, for the past 7 years, I can attest to the increased traffic downtown even during hours that the restaurants aren’t open. A huge thank you to the individuals who have invested in our downtown and our community. It does not go unnoticed. For all the naysayers, I invite you to do one of two things. Come hang out during normal business hours for a week, or INVEST your money into the downtown and bring what you want to see. It takes people who care and want to see the town blossom to make a difference. Fussing won’t do anything. The city can only do so much, it takes the community and individuals. So again, a HUGE thank you to those that invest their hard earned dollars into our sweet town.
