“Aakiel Greer….he’ll make a grab on the near sideline and he’ll spin into the endzone for a touchdown.”

That was the call from legendary play-by-play broadcaster Eli Gold Saturday, May 18 as Greer scored his first professional football touchdown as a member of the Arena Football League’s Wichita Regulators against the Nashville Kats.

The former Whippet’s road to professional football began after graduating Kosciusko High School in 2015.

He began his collegiate career at Delta State University before transferring to Coahoma Community College. He played his final years of college football at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, NC.

After graduating, Greer had a tryout during a minicamp for the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders in 2022.

In 2023, Greer made his professional debut for the Vegas Knighthawks of the Indoor Football League before being traded to the Iowa Barnstormers.

To start the 2024 season, Greer said his agent was able to put him in touch with Wichita Regulators’ Head Coach, AFL Hall of Famer Clinton Solomon.

“With my position being wide receiver, we discussed a plan that would help me use the AFL to get in position to further my career of playing football professionally outdoors in leagues such as NFL, CFL, UFL, or overseas,” Greer told BreezyNews.

Greer said he has received interest from the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders as well as the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

“It is definitely a huge honor to continue to represent my city and my school.”

Greer and the Regulators’ next game will be Saturday, June 8 on the road against the Southwest Kansas Storm.
