The Kosciusko Whippets are featured in Si.com’s Mascot Challenge contest that is attempting to find the best high school mascot in America.

The contest is a bracket style challenge based on the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Kosciusko, is in the field as a No. 2 seed due to finishing 2nd in the December’s Mississippi Mascot contest. East Union finished first in that contest and is the only other Mississippi school in the bracket.

In the first round, the Whippets are matched up against the No. 15 seed Battling Bishops of Bishop England High School of Daniel Island, SC.

The winner of this round will move on to face either the Bryn Mawr Mawrtians (Maryland) or Vineland Fighting Clan (New Jersey).

Voting is open now and fans can vote once every six hours.

2. Kosciusko Whippets (Mississippi)

Kosciusko isn’t the only high school in the country called the Whippets, but it’s the only one with a smiling physical whippet mascot named Whippy to whip the fans into a frenzy at sporting events.

15. Bishop England Battling Bishops (South Carolina)

Seven other U.S. high schools go by the Bishops, but Bishop England has the only Battling Bishops in the country. One incarnation of its mascot is among the most amusing in U.S. history — an angry-looking bishop wearing boxing gloves who looks ready to defend his fighting spirit.
