Mayor welcomes 80-year-old cyclist to Kosciusko

Mayor Jimmy Cockroft welcomed Dr. Katharine Jeter to Kosciusko Monday afternoon.

Dr. Jeter, a breast cancer survivor, is known by her fellow cyclists as Bi Bi.

Bi Bi is riding her bicycle from Nashville to Natchez to celebrate her 80th birthday October 25.

She is also on a mission to raise $80,000 for Globalbike. Globalbike raises money to provide bicycles for women in Tanzania as basic transportation for carrying food, water and supplies for her family. Each bike cost $200.

Mayor Cockroft, Donna Holdiness, tourism director, and other donors raised money for one bicycle to be given from Kosciusko.

Dr. Jeter and the group of eighteen riders spent the night in Kosciusko and plan to be in Natchez by the 25th.
